Lifetimely: How to Connect Smile.io

At a glance

Connect Smile.io to Lifetimely in one click to see your loyalty program's members, VIP tiers, and reward redemptions alongside your profit, LTV, and retention data - so you can tell whether the program is actually making you money.

What this enables

  • See whether Smile members really retain and spend better: the Repurchase Rate report breaks down by loyalty tier with a non-member baseline, and the Cohorts report splits LTV and retention by member vs. non-member and by VIP tier
  • Ask the Profit Agent for a verdict on your program - what members earn you in profit, what you're spending on rewards, and whether the program clears
  • Find which one-time buyers are worth pushing into your loyalty program, ranked by how much they look like your profitable repeat customers
  • Spot VIP members going quiet and see who's worth a win-back offer, ranked by profit at risk

What you'll need

  • A Smile.io account - one-click connect works on every Smile plan
  • Admin access to your Lifetimely account

Setup

Step 1 - Open the Smile.io page in Lifetimely

  1. In Lifetimely, go to Integrations and select Smile.io (or go directly to https://lifetimely.useamp.com/integrations/smile).
  2. You'll see the Connect Smile button.

Step 2 - Connect with Smile

  1. Click Connect Smile. You'll be taken to Smile, where you can log in with Shopify or with your Smile email and password if you aren't logged in already.

  1. On the authorization screen, click Authorize. It shows exactly what Lifetimely can read - VIP tiers, points transactions, customer information, and reward fulfillments - and confirms Lifetimely can't make changes like creating customers.

Step 3 - You're connected

You'll land back in Lifetimely with a green "Connected via Smile OAuth" indicator, and your loyalty data starts importing immediately. Depending on the size of your program, the first import can take from a few minutes up to a few hours.

Alternative: connect with an API key (Smile Plus)

If you prefer, merchants on the Smile Plus plan can connect with an API key instead:

  1. In your Smile Admin, go to Settings > Platform and copy your API key.
  2. On the Smile.io page in Lifetimely, click Or connect with an API key.
  3. Paste the key, click Test to verify it, then Save.

Where you'll see the data

  • Repurchase Rate report: break down repurchase behavior by loyalty tier, with a non-member baseline row - see at a glance whether members actually come back more.
  • Cohorts report: split LTV and retention by member vs. non-member and by current VIP tier.
  • Profit Agent: ask anything that combines your loyalty data with profit, orders, and customers.

Ways to use it: what to ask the Profit Agent

Your Smile data sits next to your margin, order, and customer data - so the Profit Agent can answer questions neither system can answer alone. Some examples to try:

Is the program paying for itself?

  • "Do my loyalty members generate more profit than similar non-members?"
  • "How much am I spending on reward redemptions, and what do I get back for it?"
  • "Which VIP tier has the best repeat purchase rate?"

Grow the program with the right customers

  • "Which of my one-time buyers look most like my profitable repeat customers but aren't loyalty members yet?"
  • "Is it worth offering double points to win them over, given the margin I'd give away?"

Save your best members

  • "Show me VIP members who haven't ordered in 90 days, ranked by profit at risk."
  • "Which of them likely need an offer to come back, and which will return on their own?"

One honest caveat the agent will also give you: members were often your best customers before they joined, so member vs. non-member comparisons can flatter the program. The agent compares against similar customers where it can and says so when the evidence is only correlation.

Troubleshooting

  • The connection fails or you're sent back without a green indicator: Try clicking Connect Smile again and make sure you're logged in to the right Smile account for this store. If it keeps failing, contact support.
  • Saving an API key fails: API keys are only available on the Smile Plus plan. Check that the whole key was copied with no spaces before or after, and use Test before Save to see the exact error.
  • I connected but don't see loyalty data yet: The first import starts immediately but can take up to a few hours for a large program. If nothing appears after that, contact support.

Notes

  • After the first import, Lifetimely checks Smile for new and updated members and redemptions every 2 hours, with a full refresh every week. The weekly refresh also catches VIP tier changes that the quicker checks can miss.
  • Disconnecting (the Disconnect button on the Smile.io integration page) stops the sync and removes your Smile data from Lifetimely; reconnecting later starts a fresh import.
  • Lifetimely only reads data from Smile - it never writes to or changes anything in your Smile account or your loyalty program.
