Lifetimely: Getting Started with Triple Whale
At a glance: Connect Triple Whale to Lifetimely to bring its pixel attribution into your LTV reports. You get the marketing channel behind every order, first touch and last touch, plus the answers to Triple Whale's own post-purchase survey. A free Triple Whale plan is enough.
What you can do
- Break cohorts down by channel: In Lifetime Value > Cohort Breakdown, break down by Marketing channel (first-touch) or (last-touch) to see LTV, repeat purchase rate and revenue by the channel Triple Whale credits. A Triple Whale badge on the column tells you which source answered.
- Filter and compare on channel: Channel filter values and cohort comparisons resolve against Triple Whale too, so a filtered or compared cohort matches the same population as the table.
- Judge channels on CAC: See customer acquisition cost per channel where your ad spend is connected.
- Use your survey answers: Break cohorts down by Triple Whale Survey Question, pick a question, then segment on the answers your customers gave.
- Ask the Profit Agent: Ask things like "Which acquisition channel brings my highest-LTV customers?" or "Do my Facebook customers repurchase faster than my Google ones?" and get an answer built on pixel attribution instead of Shopify visit data. The agent can read your Triple Whale survey answers too.
Before you start
- You need an active Triple Whale account. The free plan is enough, you do not need a paid subscription.
- You connect Triple Whale with an API key you generate in Triple Whale. There is no app install step.
- A Triple Whale key's scopes cannot be changed after you create it, so choose your scopes carefully in step 1.
- On first connection Lifetimely imports up to 2 years of Triple Whale history, or as far back as your Triple Whale pixel data goes.
- The first import runs once and can take a few hours. After that, data refreshes every 4 hours.
How to connect Triple Whale
Step 1: Generate your Triple Whale API key
- Log in to your Triple Whale account at app.triplewhale.com.
- In the left menu, go to Data > APIs. You can also go straight to app.triplewhale.com/api-keys.
- Click Generate API Key.
- Enter a Description so you can recognise the key later, for example Lifetimely.
- Under Scopes, select Pixel Attribution: Read. Scopes cannot be changed afterwards, so also select Summary Page: Read if you would rather not generate a new key for future Lifetimely features.
- Click Generate API Key to confirm.
- Copy the key from the popup. The key is shown only once and cannot be retrieved after you close the popup.
Step 2: Connect Triple Whale in Lifetimely
- In Lifetimely, go to the Integrations page.
- Select Triple Whale from the list of integrations.
- Paste your key into the API key field.
- Click Test to check the key against Triple Whale without saving it. You should see Connection successful.
- Click Save. A Connected status appears and the first import starts.
Step 3: Verify your data
- Wait for the first import to finish. This can take a few hours.
- Go to Lifetime Value > Cohort Breakdown.
- Set the breakdown to Marketing channel (first-touch).
- Look for the Triple Whale badge above the channel column, and for Triple Whale's own channel names in the rows, for example google-ads, facebook-ads and tiktok-ads.
- If the badge and those channel names appear, the integration is working correctly.
Tip: You can check the connection from the Triple Whale side too. On the Data > APIs page, your key's Last Used date updates each time Lifetimely reads your data.
Data syncing and limitations
- Syncing: The first import covers up to 2 years, or as far back as your Triple Whale pixel data goes. After that Lifetimely re-reads the last 7 days every 4 hours, so late attribution changes get picked up. It is not real time.
- Channel only: Triple Whale carries no UTM source or medium, so the Marketing source and Marketing medium dimensions keep using Shopify visit data. Channel values appear exactly as Triple Whale reports them, including its Non-attributed and Excluded buckets, so they will not match the Shopify channel names you are used to.
- One attribution source per store: Once Triple Whale data is present, the channel dimensions read Triple Whale across the whole reporting period. Orders placed before your Triple Whale pixel started tracking show as non-attributed rather than falling back to Shopify visit data.
- CAC coverage: CAC per channel needs matching ad spend in Lifetimely. Spend matches reliably for Google and Meta, so other channels can show a row with no spend behind it.
- Post-purchase survey report: Triple Whale survey answers reach the Cohort Breakdown dimension and the Profit Agent. The Attribution > Post-purchase survey report reads Shopify's own survey data, so it does not show Triple Whale responses.
- Keys and disconnecting: If your key is revoked, syncing stops until you generate a new one and save it. Clicking Disconnect account deletes your Triple Whale data from Lifetimely and the channel dimensions go back to Shopify visit data.
Note: The first import may take several hours. Wait for it to finish before checking your reports. If the Triple Whale badge is still missing after 24 hours, contact support.
