Profit Agent: Getting the Profit Agent in Slack
At a glance: The Profit Agent can send your store's key numbers to a Slack channel on the schedule you choose, answer any question about your store when you @mention it, and flag the things you tell it are urgent. This page walks you through setup.
What data does the Profit Agent access in Slack?
It uses your store data from Lifetimely and your connected integrations to generate its reports and answers, then posts them to the channel you choose. It can read messages in channels it's been added to, and has no access to anything else in your Slack workspace.
Step-by-step setup
Step 1: Connect Slack from Lifetimely settings. Go to Settings in Lifetimely, find the Slack section, click Connect Slack, and follow the OAuth prompts to authorise the Lifetimely Profit Agent app. Once complete, the Profit Agent sends you a direct message to confirm it's connected.
Step 2: Choose your channel in Lifetimely settings. Pick the Slack channel you want the Profit Agent to post to.
Step 3: Invite the Profit Agent to that channel in Slack. This is the step people most often miss. Open the channel and type /invite @Lifetimely Profit Agent , or @mention it and Slack will prompt you to invite it. Once it joins, it introduces itself and starts posting. Until it's invited, it can't post to the channel.
Don't see the agent in Slack's top bar after connecting?
Posting to a channel and @mentioning the agent work as soon as it's invited (Step 3). But if you want to chat with it directly from Slack's top bar and it isn't showing up, a Slack workspace admin needs to switch it on:
- In Slack, open admin settings and go to Integrations → Manage integrations.
- Under Installed apps, search "Lifetimely" and click Lifetimely Profit Agent.
- Open the App Settings tab.
- Click Edit and enable both: "AI assistant experience" and "Show Lifetimely Profit Agent on Slack's top bar."
Requires Slack admin access. If you're not an admin, forward this to whoever manages your workspace.
What happens after setup
Once you complete the OAuth connection, the Profit Agent sends you a direct message:
"Hi, I'm your Profit Agent! What numbers about your store do you check frequently? I can send them to your Slack, when and how often works for you."
Once you invite it to a channel, it introduces itself there:
"Hi, I'm your Profit Agent! Ask me anything about your store by tagging me. For example: '@Lifetimely Profit Agent, which of my VIPs are at risk?' '@Lifetimely Profit Agent, what should I focus on this week?' Tip: the more context you give me, the better my answers get. Include the time period, relevant metrics, and any specifics about your store."
FAQ
Does it post automatically, or only when I ask? Both. It sends the reports you set up on your chosen schedule, and you can ask it anything any time by @mentioning it in a channel it's been added to — it replies in the thread. You can also ask it to flag specific things you consider urgent, so it only pings you about what matters to you.
