How to Test Bundles on an Unpublished Theme

Testing your bundles on an unpublished theme is a great way to make sure everything looks perfect before you go live. This guide will walk you through how to safely test Bundles by AMP without affecting your active store.

Step 1: Choose or Create a Test Theme

You can either use an existing unpublished theme or create a new one.

  • If you have an unpublished theme ready to go, you can use that for testing.

If you don't have an unpublished theme, you'll need to create a copy of your current live theme.

    1. From your Shopify home screen, go to "Online Store" > "Themes."
    2. Find your current live theme, click the "Actions" dropdown, and select "Duplicate."
    3. Shopify will create a copy of your theme. You can rename it something like "Bundles Test Theme" for easy reference.

Step 2: Enable the Bundles App Embed

Now, you'll enable the Bundles by AMP app embed on your chosen test theme.

  1. On your test theme, click the "Actions" dropdown, and select "Preview."
  2. From your Shopify home screen, go to "Apps" and click on "Bundles by AMP."
  3. Go to your app's home screen and click the "Enable in theme editor" button. This will open the Theme Editor for your test theme.
  4. On the left-hand side, find "AMP | Bundles" under "App embeds" and toggle the switch to turn it on.
  5. Click the blue "Save" button at the top right of the page.

Step 3: Test Your Bundles

You are now ready to test! Navigate to a product page on your test theme to see your bundles in action. Since you're on a private, unpublished theme, your customers won't be able to see any of these changes.

Once you are happy with how your bundles look and function, you can publish the test theme to make it your new live theme.
