Bundles: Best practices for creating high-converting bundles

Creating bundles is one of the easiest ways to increase your average order value (AOV) and give customers a reason to buy more. But not all bundles perform equally, the right setup and presentation can make the difference between a bundle that customers ignore and one that drives real revenue.

This guide shares best practices we’ve seen work well across Shopify stores, along with inspiration from other merchants using bundles successfully.

1. Keep your bundles simple

Bundles work best when they’re easy to understand. Offering too many products or complicated discounts can overwhelm customers.

💡 Tip: Stick to 2–3 products in a bundle, or a single product with volume discount tiers. Clear, simple messaging = higher conversion.

2. Use bundles to move slow stock

Bundles are a great way to increase sell-through of items that aren’t moving on their own. Pair slow sellers with popular items to create value without deep discounting.

Example: “Buy our best-selling dog treats and get 30% off on our new chew toy.”

3. Match bundles to customer intent

Think about the customer journey and build bundles that match what they’re shopping for.

  • Starter kits: Great for new customers (“Photography Starter Kit – Camera + Lens + Tripod”)
  • Upsell bundles: Add accessories to a hero product (“Buy Laptop + Get Laptop Sleeve at 20% off”)
  • Seasonal bundles: Target holidays, events, or special occasions (Christmas gift sets, Valentine’s Day kits)

4. Show clear savings

Customers are motivated by visible value. Make sure your bundles show the discount clearly:

  • Use “Compare at price” so they can see what they save.
  • Add text like “Save 20%” or “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” in the bundle headline.

💡 Tip: Shoppers scan fast, bold your savings and place it near the Add to Cart button.

5. Test, track, and iterate

Don’t just set and forget your bundles. Use the Bundles analytics dashboard to monitor performance:

  • High impressions, low clicks? Tweak the offer headline or bundle discount.
  • High clicks, low orders? Check if the savings are strong enough.
  • High revenue bundle? Duplicate it and apply the same strategy to other products.

Examples to inspire you

  • Classic product kit: A curated set of items that naturally go together.
  • Volume discount: “Buy 3 T-shirts, get 20% off.”
  • Free gift with purchase: “Buy 2 skincare items, get a free travel-size cleanser.”
  • Cross-sell: “Buy a camera, add a memory card at 50% off.”
