Back in Stock: Add or Import Customers

Overview

While most customers sign up for Back in Stock notifications directly from your storefront, you can also add them manually through your dashboard or import existing customer lists in bulk.

Two methods available:

  • Manual Addition: Add individual customers one at a time
  • Bulk Import: Import customer lists from CSV files

🎯 Adding Individual Customers

When to Use Manual Addition

  • Customer requests notification via phone/email/chat
  • Adding VIP customers to priority lists
  • Testing notification setup
  • Adding customers for unpublished products

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Access the Add Function
    • On Back in Stock Alerts -> Overview page, Click the 'Add' button from the top right.
  • Enter Customer Details
    • Email Address: Customer's notification email
    • Product Selection: Start typing SKU or product name
    • Choose the correct variant from search results

      Complete Addition

    • Click 'Add' to create the notification signup
    • Customer will receive notifications when that variant restocks

Special Cases

Unpublished Products:

  • You can add notifications for products not yet published to your online store
  • Example: Products only published to Point of Sale channel
  • Important: Notifications won't be sent until the product is published to the online store

Product Variants:

  • Always select the specific variant the customer wants
  • SKU must match the exact product/variant combination

📤 Bulk Import from Other Platforms

When to Use Bulk Import

  • Migrating from another back-in-stock app
  • Importing existing customer waitlists
  • Adding large customer datasets
  • Transferring notifications from previous systems

    • Email: backinstock-support@useamp.com
    • Subject: "Customer List Import Request"
    • Include details about your import needs

      Prepare Your CSV File

    • Use the format specified below
    • Test with a small sample first

CSV File Format Requirements

Your CSV file must contain exactly 3 columns in this order:

Column A Column B Column C
Email Address SMS Number (optional) Product SKU
customer@email.com +1234567890 ABC-123-VARIANT

Column Details

Column A - Email Address (Required)

  • Customer's email for notifications
  • Must be valid email format
  • Example: customer@email.com

Column B - SMS Number (Optional)

  • Include international country code
  • Format: +[country code][phone number]
  • Example: +1234567890
  • Leave blank if no SMS number

Column C - Product SKU (Required)

  • Must match exact SKU in your Shopify store
  • Must be specific to product variant
  • Example: SHIRT-BLUE-LARGE

Import Best Practices

Verify SKUs: Ensure all SKUs exist in your Shopify store

Test Small: Start with 10-20 customers to verify format

Clean Data: Remove duplicates and invalid emails

International Numbers: Always include country codes for SMS


🔍 Troubleshooting

Manual Addition Issues

Product not found in search:

  • Verify product is created in Shopify
  • Check SKU spelling and variant details
  • Ensure product has inventory tracking enabled

Customer not receiving notifications:

  • Confirm email address is correct
  • Check product is published to online store
  • Verify notification settings are enabled

Import Issues

CSV format problems:

  • Ensure exactly 3 columns (no more, no less)
  • Check for extra commas or formatting
  • Save as plain CSV (not Excel format)

SKU matching errors:

  • Verify SKUs exist in your store
  • Check for exact case-sensitive matches
  • Ensure variant-specific SKUs are used

📋 Import Checklist

Before contacting support for import:

  • CSV file has exactly 3 columns
  • All email addresses are valid
  • SMS numbers include country codes
  • All SKUs exist in your Shopify store
  • File is saved as .CSV format
  • Tested with small sample batch
